Beach State is Honoring World Reef Awareness Day
If you’ve ever been lucky enough to snorkel, swim, or paddle near one of the world’s reefs, you know how absolutely remarkable they are. They’re way more than just a pretty face; coral reefs are an essential part of the ocean ecosystem. But, the sad fact is: Our coral reefs are in danger. In recent years, there has been a major decline of the world’s reef. Much of the destruction up until now has been done by humans. The good news? Together, we can save them.
World Reef Day is the recurring annual calendar day for the world to come together in awareness and activation to effect positive change for our world’s reefs. Industrial pollution, plastic pollution, sewage, chemical sunscreens, and unmanaged high-density tourism all threaten coral reefs. The reef destruction that has happened up until now has been caused by humans, and we can fix it. By advocating for the issue and being mindful about our purchases, our Beach State can survive for generations to come.
Three simple things you can do to make a difference are:
- Use #ReefSafe sunscreen
- Reduce single-use plastics
- Post on your social media to spread awareness of this issue #WorldReefDay2022
